I absolutely love Witches Abroad - I take it with me on every trip, just in case. I will be reflecting on your essay for a bit - thank you for such a thoughtful piece on Granny Weatherwax & patterns!

I'm going to have to stop myself saying I must read that, but it actually stopped me in my tracks as I went through a time of reading a lot of Terry Pratchett and haven't been back since. I have a feeling it's all going to give me a very different story.

So interesting Katy- My initial reaction and thoughts are political and the global situation, also who I would never shake hands with as I never wish to be part of their story. But thats always my way. I have never read Terry P. But I will be placing a reserve on Witches Abroad at the library. You have given me lots to think about. Thank you.

I have been thinking a lot about this. The patterns and interrupts and the liminal spaces of our minds. All fascinating.

Thank you for this, which has made me cry in a good way. Next time someone asks me why I love Terry’s work and often say that I want to be Granny Weatherwax when I grow up I’m just going to send them this.

Reminds me of the witches conjuring a demon in the wash house with soap etc. he had a way of bringing magic, witchcraft and the like down to the basics. We don’t need the trappings of robe, athame and candles. They are nice to have but not necessary. If it’s not within us, bought stuff won’t do it. Thank you for a very interesting read

Terry Pratchett packed so much real-world, down-to-earth, common- sense wisdom into his books. I haven’t read all the Discworld novels (I’m a latecomer to the series), but I have loved each one I’ve read. Granny Weatherwax is one of my favorite characters, and I love her take on magic.

Thanks for such an in-depth piece. Lots to think about here!
