Commiserations on the Jane Cox bowl. Her ceramics look absolutely gorgeous.

Solidarity with you on Duolingo! My streak has lasted since the Brexit vote in 2016 prompted me to do something pro-European and it is an ingrained habit. I like to think (I hope!) I am better at languages than when I started! Love your analysis of the personalities. I was almost put off by Lily's bored drawl when I first started, but I feel quite protective of her now!

I think Lily is misunderstood!

Ooh, just realised Jane Cox is local to me. Surprised I haven't spotted her ceramics before?

I'm not sure how prolific she is with her making. I discovered her by accident a few years ago and stalked eBay until something came up. She doesn't seem to sell directly from her website and online there are only a few stockists I can find. Maybe she is lucky enough to have enough private clients to not need to hustle?

Thanks Katy, so much laughter. Tiny man-o-war! Loved it and am contemplating commencing a substack called “The Slattern”.

I totally cringed upon reading about the Army surplus owner dude. We haven't all lost our minds in the States, I promise! (and cigars - ecch!)

ah Katy, sorry about your Jane Cox crockery. no matter what the Buddhists say about not being attached, having something of beauty around can brighten a dull day.

and oh, your story of the army surplus store! welcome to america--except sadly it would be full of guns, guns, guns.

until the dust bunnies shapeshift into zombies, put off cleaning and dive into your creativity. we are all the richer for it.

Oh no. These disasters always seem to come in threes - washer, fridge and beautiful ceramics. Hopefully that is the end of it.

I really want to go to an afternoon rave. I saw Vicky McClure has started them too. I’ll have to keep my eyes open. And I love the people spotting.

My daughter has become slightly obsessed with duolingo. I need to get on it! Great post and here’s to a fun weekend with clean sheets and more projects.

Oh Katy! What a mix of different thoughts! From Donna Summer to Khaki trousers to broken favourites! How fab the pottery is!

I think I’d have been in tears, too xx
