I am up in arms too Katy. If it makes you feel any better whatsoever I am very angry that people donโ€™t understand things that I have told them nothing about. How very dare they.

I enjoyed reading this thank you. Can I recommend Lidl for blood oranges; I share this need and have sniffed them out!๐ŸŠ

Prickly pears are a delicacy when prepared properly, so I'm told. I've not yet worked up the nerve to try one. Maybe that can be a new year's resolution...

It's still middle of winter, so we don't need to go fast yet. Having a tantrum, followed immediately by a nap, sounds like a good plan. Tantrums are our release valves so the pressure cooker doesn't explode!

Good luck on the blood orange search. The mandarins are coming into season here, as they are twice the size now than they were last month.

Blood oranges are here! Hooray! I have eaten prickly pear somewhere but it was pretty underwhelming. x

Ahhh, porridge, a simple meal that warms the soul. And then annoys the hell out of you when washing all the gloopy remains from the saucepan!

Iโ€™m in a similar place to you I think (although you put it into words more beautifully than I ever could!) - my word for this year is relax. I realised a few days ago that, even though Iโ€™m constantly striving for the things I donโ€™t have, my life right now is about 80% to where I would design my ideal life, so I really need to stop worrying about the 20% and just be grateful for the rest. There is so much to enjoy that Iโ€™m an absolute idiot for missing it!

I get that, but it is hard sometimes when that 20% is so ruddy irritating! x

Some places call them blush oranges because people are ridiculous. Hope you find some soon.

Oh Iโ€™m so with you on the slow. Iโ€™m also hankering after a blood ๐ŸŠ. Bloody slow oranges. A great read.

They are nearly here, you can tell it's mid-Jan when you see me looking around the shops all outraged 'but where are the blood oranges?'

Learning to sit with the discomfort sounds a good aim, Katy. Good luck with it and all the shifts this year will bring. (I've successfully been fending off current anxieties by reading some wonderful Substackery, yours included. Thank you!)

It's hard. I have tracked down a few in the past week, most good, but there were a couple of stinkers and it is so disappointing.

It is a good question to ask, as long as you're prepared for what the answer is! x
