Really enjoyed this, Katy. Derek’s pen-stealing phase reminds me of Slinky Malinki (Lynley Dodd’s picture book about a thieving cat).

Love the squares of light of different lives. Bit like Substack!

I knew a band that lived together in a chaotic townhouse; anyone who visited was expected to bring an offering. This was usually food, but could also be found objects because they were doing art, too. They had some great stuff but at one point the senior band member was a butternut squash who had been hanging around for well over a year, still hard as a rock. When he started turning bright orange they made him an altar where he remained, as far as I know, until they were evicted for noise.
