I remember spotting a pair of very striking candlesticks on an antiques stall at Greenwich Market in 1985. Asked how much they were. “Two-fifty,” he said, so I was about to hand over a five pound note and he said, “No! Two hundred and fifty.” I’d never heard of Clarice Cliff! I had a good eye, though.
I love a rummage in a charity shop, and I really, really have to stop myself from bringing home cute glasses that no actual drink fits in, and dozens of teacups. It’s just all there, begging me to bring it home. I also have a soft spot for hand-knitted jumpers - they took someone ages, and I hate seeing them thrown away.
